Grandkid Photos

We had a nice visit from Carly, Stephanie and Auntie Jen during their spring break.  We decided it was time to do an official photo of the grandkids since we have never done that (and conveniently Gramma W's bday was coming up so it made for a perfect gift)!  We had fun shopping for coordinated outfits and ended up with two different options.  We had a hard time picking favorite photos so we ended up giving her two different sets of three!!

Spring Photo Shoot

I saw this beautiful field of yellow wild flowers and couldn't resist taking Kaelyn over there for a Spring Photo Shoot.  It ended up to be a pretty gnarly photo shoot.  First we had to park on a busy street and risk life and limb just to get out of the car. Then we had to cross the busy road! When we finally got to the flowers, we had to walk "into" them (since there was no path!) and there were all kinds of gross bugs and creatures.  Needless to say - we were there for 10 minutes only, and it was difficult to get good shots b/c we were both kind of grossed out - but if I wouldn't have told you that story, I bet you never would have guessed!

The Bobsy Roommates

My friend and old roommate Kelly came to visit last week.  We used to look a lot alike when we lived together - we had the same hairstyle and could pass ourselves off as sisters.  Turns out we are due only 10 days apart with matching little boys, so we had to get an officially "matching" belly pic.  Now I do know that I am getting very big but I have to say that Kelly's stripes make it seem like she doesn't even have a belly!!

Healthy Eating

KK Bella and I have been trying to concentrate on healthy eating more consistently these days (yes, she has nicknamed herself KK Bella - or KK Beya from her lips -  after reading Auntie Janet's Birth Cross Stitch framed keepsake which says "Kaelyn Isabella").  Last week we made crab stuffed avocados (Yum!).

And home-made RAW applesauce (basically blended apples, some orange zest and fresh squeezed OJ, and cinnamon) topped with Greek Yogurt and Raw Pecans.  Also very yummy.
And with a birthday to celebrate, we did get in a "treat" as well - some brownie cupcakes in the sunshine. What a great week!  We had such nice weather that every time it is "time" to eat, Kaelyn asks to "eat outside"... who can resist a meal al fresco?

Bedroom Progress

Thought I'd post an update on the progress we've made on the bedroom.  Auntie Nancy came for a brief visit last weekend so we hurried the bed so she'd have somewhere to sleep.  Although the plan was to have the dust ruffle covering the bed (and therefore Mike was going to make a bed that wasn't that good looking), Mike got all creative and made a bed that I think is pretty darn cute!

An Italian Feast

We are sooo excited to have discovered some new neighbors recently.  Filipo is a true Italian, and you know how much we love all things Italian!  His wife Karen has stopped by while walking with their two kids, Luca and Cecilia (Chechelia), and we finally made the connection that they also garden in their backyard like we do! So Mike and Filipo really hit it off with "dirt" speak (literally), and the kids love bouncing in the trampoline they have out back.  Well last weekend we were invited to join them for a special "Polenta" dinner which was touted to be quite "fun."  I will admit, I was intrigued by a meal described as "fun" and wasn't sure how Polenta translated into an adventure.
Well it turns out, the true Italian way to eat Polenta is to pour it out over a board as big as a table - put various sauces/meats on top - and FEAST!  Apparently our family-style polenta adventure was a notable feast versus the traditional polenta meal which was considered a very economical way to eat in times of food scarcity.

What a special treat this was and, in particular, very FUN!  The kids loved it and, well, Mike and I are still wondering how we can ever offer an experience quite like this to our future guests!!

Free Babysitter

I have often thought that us mommies should start a list of the "free babysitters" we have found useful for helping us take a 10 minute shower or wash the dishes after dinner.  Mine happens to be lotion.  Kaelyn could play with lotion for probably darn near 40 minutes at a time.  It's nice, but it does tend to get a bit messy ;-)
